I, like many fans of DC Comics' superheroes, was bothered by the newly unveiled DC Comics logo for 2012. At first, we thought the logo resembled a turning comic-book page, but the description officially given by DC Comics, a "dual identity" theme, is rather pretentious.
So, I decided to offer myself a challenge. Could I do any better? That's what I wanted to find out.
I present to you my own version of the DC Comics logo, a mix of the classic "bullet" logo and my own unique touch! This was done in less than an hour in Flash (and this presentation was assembled in Photoshop) on January 22. Since DC stands for "Detective Comics," I decided to go for a "detective" theme, and use a magnifying glass for a bullet, much like what detectives use.
But, of course, you don't necessarily need a magnifying glass or the brain of Sherlock Holmes to enjoy the adventures of Superman, Batman (himself a detective!), Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Sugar & Spike, Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, etc.!
Realistically, DC Comics would not consider using this logo, even if they liked it, but I feel it captures the name, as well as that excitement of reading comics. And uncovering them as a detective would!
Anyway, I did you all one better... I created a Marvel logo of my own, too!
It's Nice, but the "DC" Actually Stands for Diamond Comics... Back When They Bought Out National Comics (The Home of Captain Marvel), They Changed to the Simple "DC" to Play Off of the "National" Identity They Gained...
Regardless, Your Design Is Nice, but Perhaps This Information Will Further Inspire You
Yours is much better. I good logo should work in pure black and white, which the new "official" logo doesn't. That is simply bad design! Your logo works in b&w and with added detail. Great job!
Yeah, I was disappointed with the new DC logo. That's just overdoing it. Sometimes, simple is better! (Even the 20th Century Fox logo has an abstract vector version for movie posters and such! The new DC logo just doesn't lend itself to that format.)
